What's Happening

Cornette Library is transitioning our Interlibrary Loan software from ILLiad to Tipasa.

What is ILLiad:

Originally created in 1992 by Virginia Tech, ILLiad was the industry standard Interlibrary Loan software for many years after being licensed and distributed by by OCLC in 2000. Cornette library adopted ILLiad in 2002. While the software has received updates for user experience and security, the software's windows-only client-server architecture is showing it's age. It requires a server and three separate applications to run and maintain ILLiad, leading to a complex experience.

What is Tipasa:

Tipasa was introduced by OCLC as a replacement for ILLiad in 2017. The primary focus of Tipasa was to transition the complex software architecture of ILLiad to a cloud-based application. While the software has had some growing pains, we have decided that the time is right to switch to this modern lower-maintenance ILL solution. Additionally, Tipasa can integrate with ALMA, our collection management software, to simplify the user experience.

What to Expect

Changes:

  • Patrons will be able to log in with their BuffID and password, rather than creating a new account.
  • Patrons will be able to see their ILL books in their My Library Card Portal on the Library's Website.
  • Patrons will experience a simpler, sleeker user experience.

Complications:
