The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the dedication of the Robert Frost sculpture on the east side of Cornette Library. The sculpture is dedicated in memory of Dr. James P. Cornette, former University President, and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Cornette. Robert Frost, U.S. Poet Laureate, was Dr. Cornette's favorite poet. In 1963 he featured Robert Frost in his Sunday afternoon program "Eternally Yours, Robert Frost" on Channel 4 in Amarillo. Dr. Cornette taught English at Western Kentucky University and was Dean of Baylor University before accepting the Presidency of what was then West Texas State College in 1948. He served as President of the University until 1973. Mary Elizabeth established the Canyon Art Gallery in 1965. She had a lifelong commitment to the arts and was dedicated to incorporating international cultures through her gallery.
